This newly-constructed home was suffering from all the classic landscape issues: boring, generic plant selection and poor soil preparation resulting in little to no growth or lushness in the plantings. With two young children, this client wanted a fully-organic landscape that blended timeless elegance with modern ecological principals, with increased intimacy and privacy. We created new beds along the driveway and around the mature trees in the front yard, underplanting with native shrubs and perennials. The backyard presented its own challenges – awkwardly-spaced arborvitae that never filled in because of the horrific soil conditions beneath! We removed the ten thousand pounds of old soil, amended organically, and replanted the back border with layers of arborvitae, hydrangea, and roses. Of course, it wouldn't be a Green Jay project without a Bird & Butterfly garden for the children!
