Courtyard Cloister Garden

Somers, NY

The inspiration for this landscape design was the existing mature trees that encircle the perimeter of the backyard.

The height of the trees lent a feeling of seclusion and intimacy to the backyard. But, as a lawn, it was boring and hardly invited use of the space.

GJLD first designed a circular network of natural stone masonry – gravel and flagstone – connecting to a new flagstone patio.

Naturalistic plantings effortlessly blend with the hardscape and relate to the farmhouse architecture – all the while creating habitat for pollinators and birds.
